How to improve and protect your mental health

Being mentally healthy is a lot more than simply the absence of mental illness. It's feeling happier more often, having healthy self-esteem, being connected to the important people in your life, and being emotionally resilient when life turns negative.

Our 'How to improve and protect your Mental Health' Programme will help you move towards flourishing mental health by showing you how to incorporate mentally healthy practices into your life.

Suicide Prevention Skills Training

We deliver award-winning Suicide Prevention Training that helps people reduce suicide risk using the Look Listen Link model.

The training removes the myths around suicide risk, explains why people become at risk,  shows how to identify someone who is at risk and how to safely help them by linking them to the appropriate help.
We have trained thousands of police officers and staff across the UK as well as university students, teachers, parents and the general public.

Universities and Students' Unions

Two Roads Charity delivers  mental health training for Universities and Students’ Unions across the UK.

Our two programmes Mind Your Mate (suicide prevention skills for university students) and Mind Yourself (how to improve and protect your mental health while at university), reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, and reduce the barriers that prevent students from accessing the help and support they need while studying at the University.

To find out more, read about our work with the Glasgow University Students' Representative Council (GUSRC) to build a community of Mental Health Champions.

Organisations across the UK

Two Roads Charity has extensive experience delivering mental health training programmes to a wide variety of organisations.

We have delivered programmes in veterinary practices, GP practices, commercial enterprises,  carer organisations, charities, government departments, sports clubs, community groups, churches, schools and parents groups across the UK.

If you have a group of people who need to have a more developed understanding of mental health we would be delighted to discuss how we could help make that happen.

Our programmes can be face to face or online.

How we work

Training delivered when you need it delivered

We can tailor our programmes to fit your need e.g. we deliver training to police officers and staff which reflects the mental health challenges of modern policing and we deliver training to members of the veterinary profession that addresses the unique challenges faced by vets, vet nurses and staff. We deliver face to face but also have successfully adapted our programmes to be delivered online.

Direct Delivery

There are organisations that need us to deliver our training directly to their staff or members; for example, we deliver our training directly to the Metropolitan Police Service and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as part of their Mind Matters Initiative.

Train the Trainer

Other organisations wish to build their own capacity to deliver our training programmes and we provide a Train the Trainer Programme. Many Students’ Unions have chosen this option including Glasgow, London School of Economics, Royal Veterinary College, Aberystwyth, Ulster, Loughborough, Swansea, Wrexham and Sussex.

Hands Up
"Before the programme I didn't have any knowledge of emotional resilience and now I know a lot more about it. Everything from understanding pessimism and how to spot signs of depression, it has really helped me understand a lot more."
